monologue

Monologuing is a feature I want to incorporate into my final project that we have not previously used in our other projects. The first film I analyzed that had monologuing was Sunset Boulevard (1950). I broke down how I was effected by the speaker to help me understand the way I want my viewers to feel.

Sunset Blvd monologuing is non diegetic. The speaker voice was slow and clear, creating a calm tone to the viewer despite the chaos happening as the police were rushing to a crime scene in the back ground. The speaker displayed a limited knowledge of the personal info, but also seemed as if he was holding out on the viewer.

In my film I want to convey a similar tone of calmness to help contrast with the gradual build up to a more chaos and hectic ending.
